December 20th Christmas Tree Decorations.

Today (Sat 20th December) Friends of Coed Bach gathered by the Christmas tree in the middle of the 2nd woods in the park to decorate the tree.
We thank the community for all your support over the last few years and at the same time we celebrate our community, While we also remember friends long gone.
We hope this will become a yearly event with more people joining in (and yes we had some mulled wine with mince pies from Noakes Bakery in the town, and a quick sing song to round off proceedings.)

We must also thank Gaynor Fuge who produced the tags and spent ages engraving every message on to them.

So if you are taking a walk through the park pop over for a little look. After all it's there for everybody to enjoy.

Merry Christmas everybody!!!!!!!!!!!

December

We at Friends of Coed Bach Park would like to congratulate our founding Member Christine Thomas for her recognition in receiving a Fields in Trust Award.
Chris has done a lot of work in getting this project of ours started and has been absolutely single minded in sorting the Park out and plenty of people are now commenting on how much more friendlier and welcoming the park is now looking.
And we must give a huge Thank you to Swansea City Council for their help and guidence over the last few years.

Chris you are a true Community Champion and it's a well deserved award we at FOCBP are proud of you.

We have a few new benches around the park one by the Coed Bach entrance, Two by the Tennis court and one in the second woods near the bridge.
There are a few more to go in by the football fields. so you can relax and enjoy the games in more comfort.
And a big thank you to Pontarddulais Council Comittee for allowing us to have the benches.

Also the main seasonal pond in the Second woods has attracted a few more ducks to it. At the last count there were 6 of them swimming about. And that is great news.
We will be reshaping the pond slightly in the new year as there is still a little work to do in that area and it will help hold more water in the area.

We have completely sold out of our Calendars and people are still asking us if we have any left. So we will have a bigger production for them next year.

On Saturday the 20th December members of the park will be hanging personalised Christmas tags on the Christmas Tree in the second woods. This will take place about 11am.

We will not be meeting until January 2015 so from us at the Park.

We wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

October News

Our next monthly meeting will be held on the 29th October at 7.30pm in Pontarddulais Cricket Club.

Our winter work programmes have resumed and we are happy to welcome two new members. Dillwyn and Virginia. Who have put on their gloves stuck on their wellies and are getting stuck into the place :-)
You may have noticed that there are a few new bins around the top football pitch and we have some benches (which we have just painted) that will be placed around the place shortly.
As usual a big thank you to the City and County of Swansea for obtaining these for us.
And we have been busy around the rugby club hard standing area clearing the bushes and trees area to give you a better view of the seasonal pond. And our usual bit of adding chip bark to the pathways to keep things topped up.

New member Virginia (Left) and Christine. (Dillwyn is camera shy.....I Shall get him again :-)

On Sunday 19th Ocotber Teifion held a second Fungi Foray around the park, and once again the park gave up it's little secrets.
Everybody who attended learnt a lot and really enjoyed the event.
But sadly for the cooks among us we came across nothing edible.

Meeting+News

We are holding our monthly meeting at Pontarddulais Cricket Club at the usual time of 7.30pm on Wednesday.
All welcome.

John Evans has found a willing volunteer to take over the Treasurer position and he will be introducing Steve to us at the meeting.  Windsor Kay and I have met Steve at the Pontarddulais Partnership meeting we attended and we look forward to working with him.

Joy Walker, our founding Friends Vice Chair is selling a flatbed trailer 36" x 68" with ramp, winch, tool box, jockey wheel and lights. It has two new tyres but the wheels have to be attached to it before it can be taken away. Joy is asking £100 for it - if you are interested or know anyone who might be please give her a ring on 01792 882266.

Adam Mason has sent this link through about the Grow Local courses that are running at Singleton Park Botanical Gardens in case anyone is interested you can book directly using this link.

And finally I am so pleased to say that we also have had a donation of a lap top computer - thanks to Robert Morgan.  I will bring this to the meeting and then there can be no excuse for me not doing the notes straight away.

QE2 Award

You may have noticed a rather sculptured piece of wood by the Gwynfryn road entrance to the park.
This is going to be our little monument for the QE2 plaque which will be unveiled on August 2nd at 2pm.

What does this mean for the park? Click on the link below for more information.

As usual we thank the boy's from the City and County of Swansea for helping us move this quite sizeable object to it's current location.

We hope to see you there on the day to celebrate with us.

Other News.

As you are aware we have a new playing surface on the Tennis courts and we are receiving very good reviews about the way the way it plays. At the same time an old chain fencing was taken down by the car park/bowls green and this has now been replaced with a more up to date fence.
Again thank's to everybody involved in constructing this as the area looks a lot nicer.
